Gluten Free Barbecue Sauce Recipe

By , About.com Guide

Teri Lee Gruss
Making your own homemade barbecue sauce is fast and easy. Commercial BBQ sauces are common sources of hidden gluten. This recipe makes a thick all purpose sauce, not too sweet or too hot but a sauce that everyone should enjoy. Use it on grilled chicken, ribs, pulled pork, burgers or brats. It is also a good dipping sauce for gluten free chicken tenders.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup gluten free ketchup
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup GF Worchestershire sauce (Lea and Perrins is GF)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 medium chopped onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon celery powder (not salt)
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

Preparation:

Combine all ingredients in a heavy, medium sized sauce pan. Bring to a boil and simmer on low for about 10 minutes. Cool and store in the refrigerator.

Makes about 3 cups

Reminder: Always make sure your work surfaces, utensils, pans and tools are free of gluten. Always read product labels. Manufacturers can change product formulations without notice. When in doubt, do not buy or use a product before contacting the manufacturer for verification that the product is free of gluten.
