You say tattie, I say fadge! Elaine Lemm, our Guide to British and Irish Food says that in Scotland potato cakes are called "Tattie Scones" and the Irish call them "Fadge."
Whatever you call this recipe for gluten-free and dairy-free potato rolls, they are easy to make and a great recipe for using up leftover mashed potatoes. I baked my recipe for gluten-free fadge / tattie scones but you can pan-fry or grill them for a fast breakfast alternative to hash browns. These little potato rolls are dense, nothing like a light gluten-free biscuit which they resemble in appearance.
I noticed that my husband discreetly slipped half of his gluten-free fadge / tattie cake to our old dog Buckwheat. Buckwheat and I enjoyed ours, especially with the optional minced chives added for flavor. As the adage goes- There is no accounting for taste- you'll either like gluten-free fadge / tattie cakes or you won't.
