Homemade kale chips are scary good. I bought a small package of kale chips at my local health food store several weeks ago. They were flavored with seasonings and labeled gluten-free. I gobbled the high-priced small bag down in no time flat. The delicate, crispy chips were delicious. I wanted more.
Kale is a healthy leafy green vegetable related to the cabbage family. Our About.com Guide to Nutrition says "Kale is an excellent source of vitamins A, C and K, and a good source of calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium and vitamin C, while being low in sodium." And it only contains 34 calories per cup. For a snack food, those are some very healthy statistics.
Homemade kale chips are easy to make and you can add your favorite gluten-free herb blends for more distinctive flavor. This is a snack that your kids may really like and a great way to get them to eat nutrient-rich dark green leafy greens.
